I don’t often have the luxury of such a long and leisurely conversation about things like writing and storytelling. So I appreciate the generosity of my colleague, The Rev. John Borthwick, Director of Ministry Forum: The Centre for Lifelong Learning at Knox College, Toronto, who hosted me as a guest on his podcast.
John and I met many decades ago (to find out how many you’ll have to listen) as M.Div. students at Knox, and now we are both back at our alma mater, this time as colleagues. One of the things that struck me about John’s approach to this interview is the broad way he views both call and ministry. As someone who graduated from seminary but was never ordained, it meant a lot to me to hear someone else speak of my work as ministry, and acknowledge as a vocational journey the rather circuitous path I have been on.
We cover a lot of territory here, beginning with a bit of personal history, meandering through thoughts on writing and publishing and why ministry leaders (and everyone else) should care about picture books, and concluding with an introduction to my book Rise: A Child’s Guide to Eastertide, the newest volume in the Circle of Wonder series from Paraclete Press.
Make yourself a cup of tea and settle in to listen here.
